Sorry for the weak stomachs out there...if that's you please read 1st and 2nd to last paragraph onward :)
Hey everyone,
Just thought I’d write a little letter to let you know how things are going on this side of the world. If you have been following my facebook, you will know that we have been in the books of 1&2 Kings 1&2 Chronicles last week and this week, which were combined into one super assignment that has most of the students, including myself, working on overtime.
I have been at a disadvantage since 2 weeks ago. I developed a small pain in my hand on a Thursday morning that I thought was just a sprain of some sort. By evening, however, it had grown quite sore and red. Around 4am I woke up and it was throbbing uncontrollably and by 8pm I was being taken to the emergency room. The first doctor who saw me stated that it didn’t look infected and sent me home with some heavy painkillers.
Saturday brought on yet another wonderful surprise, as pockets of puss had begun to develop on the tip and under the nail of my thumb and it was incredibly painful, even at the maximum dosage of my codeine. I didn’t have a way to the hospital till Monday, so I made do. Unfortunately, I hit my thumb on a desk and it ripped my nail back exposing the infection even more.
When Monday came, they had to operate on my thumb by cutting out all the infected areas. They put me on heavy antibiotics that have made me quite nauseous. As of today, a little over a week after, I can say I am at somewhat able to use my right hand.
The staff here has been lenient towards my work, not requiring me to write as in-depth on the subject matter, which I am very grateful about.
I am super excited about next week, as it marks 6 months of being here in South Africa and also because we have a week break before we dive into the books of the prophets.
Please continue to pray for me specifically that God will continue to open up opportunities to witness to people and that God’s word will continue to be refreshing and new as we study it 6 days a week. Thank you again for partnering with me in all that God is doing in my life. Please know that I am truly indebted to you who have made it possible for me to be here, both spiritually through prayer and financially through your giving.
